Upgrading to power steering and an automatic - \'79

Wanting to upgrade my '79 CJ to powere steering. It has the 232 I-6. What parts and information is needed to upgrade?

It also has a 3 speed and I would like an automatic or even a 4 speed. Will the 4 speed fit up to the t-case for a swap out from a 3 to 4?

I took my power box, pump and hoses from a wagoneer. It has been a while but I believe all fit right in with no changes. I did however, change the pitman arm from a CJ with power.

Please fill out your profile.

Look for a AMC pacer, hornet, etc that has the same engine or a 258 and grab the brakets and pump off of that. I used a power steering box off of a '76 waggie and then converted the end of my steering shaft to accept the larger power steering box input shaft. You can get the part through quadra-tec or 4wd catalogs.

Do a search and you will find all the parts that you will need.
