Re: cant keep a fender

1. Yep, and they're fiberglass!
2. To be fair the Jeep's only gone 1600 miles in the last 10 months...
3. 1300 of 'em behind the Ryder Truck from Wisconsin to Washington.
4. The other 300 from River Falls WI to St. Paul wern't too tough on it.
5. I try not to hit things!

Re: cant keep a fender

1. Kelvar and Fiberglass don't seem to mix too well.
2. The layers de-laminate after a year or so and the product starts to crumble.
3. It's very weak in that area.
4. Me.. I like the Flat-Fender look... and wish someone would make Glass Flat fender conversions for the CJ.
5. Cut 'em off?
6. Nope... not on your life. I don't like mud.
7. Mud'd be slingin' everwhere.
8. Did I mention I hate mud?

Re: cant keep a fender

Right after painting the moonlight rambler I was turning around on a tight trail (the trail went out in the middle of some muskeg--not someplace I like to wheel!) and when I thumped a small 6" diamater spruce with the front bumper, it sorta bounced around the bumper and hooked between it and the front bumper. I was already looking back, and didn't notice. I had the top off at the time, and when I backed up the tree came with me, and scared my wife in the passenger seat a bit (tree didn't fall on us, but the branches came closer and startled her!) When I got out and unhooked the tree from the front bumper, I noticed I'd bent the front right fender a little and put a 1" long crack in it fromt he bottom lip as well. I figure it's a character mark! Went home and used a crescent wrench and straitened the front lip the best I could, and you can't tell I bent it. The crack is still there though!

Re: cant keep a fender

just remove them, that's what i did to my tj. I did kinda replace them with triangles of angle iron and flat stock with some lawn edging flares, getting replaced with tube fenders some time soon (the money tree has to land in my front yard 1st)

Re: cant keep a fender

I know the feeling. I crunched the passenger fender when the Jeep was only about 4 months old. I took it in to have it fixed since it was a brand new jeep, at a cost of $300. Then this past summer I crunched the same fender again. It now has it's first bit of cancer on that fender.

Re: cant keep a fender

I've only put scratches on mine so far :knockinonwood:
But mirrors and CB antennas that's another story.
