V.I.N. Tag

I purchased a Cj7 while I was living in Michigan. Had it plated and tagged. I moved to Ohio, need the jeep inspected to get new tags...Someone changed the tub to fiberglass and never put the original vin tag back on...so I don't have a vin tag to have numbers checked to...I have the title...with original numbers...anyone know how to obtain a vin tag? All help will be deeply appreciated.

Re: V.I.N. Tag

Here in Colorado I had to have it checked by the state and then they gave me a VIN. I would call the DMV and they will tell you what to do to get a VIN. It may be different in your state.

1. Ohio Title Information
2. Go to a County Clerk!

Re: V.I.N. Tag

I had no VIN plate and after they inspected the Jeep they put one on the body. The previous owner had put a fiber glass body on and didn't transfer the VIN. I don't know about a VIN on the frame.

Re: V.I.N. Tag

My '79 CJ-7 has the plate riveted to the grill on top near the hood latch and rad. cap. It also has the decal on the dash to the left of the steering column. The old frame was so rusty I never found and evidence of any number anywhere. I looked after the frame was bare. Also it is my understanding that the vin goes with the body.

Re: V.I.N. Tag

VIN is stamped on the top of the frame along side the right rear tire.
