Carrier Question for Dana 30!

Thanks for the help and opnions on the gear ratio, I'm going with 4.56....

I know I need a carrier for the front axle, my question is this....

My friend has a carrier from his 2001 Sahara Dana 30,
will that work in the CJ dana 30?

I've heard that the TJ carrier will accept 4.56 gears, just wondering if that is true or not?

thanks

Re: Carrier Question for Dana 30!

I don't think the year matters they all use a differant carrier 3.55 and down and 3.73 and up.

But then I may be wrong and will be enlightened right along with you.

Re: Carrier Question for Dana 30!

The TJ 30 had 3.73 gears so it can take the 4.56 without and problem, I guess I'm just not sure if the carriers are the same!!!

I would *think* they would be the same not sure and thinking is deffinitely a dangerous task!

Re: Carrier Question for Dana 30!

So the TJ diff is standard rotation like the CJ 30? Which ones are HP (Reverse Rotation?), the YJ & XJs?

Re: Carrier Question for Dana 30!

There is somthing different in the TJ 30. But what it is i cant remember. Grab your qtec mag and look for the carrier part number under the CJ and the TJ. If they are the same part number then they are the same carrier.

Re: Carrier Question for Dana 30!

They're differant part numbers in the qtec catalog even with the same gear ratio. 72-86 ,87-90 then 90-01 is how they split up and differant numbers in each group.

Re: Carrier Question for Dana 30!

YJ + XJ are reverse Rotation, CJ + TJ are standard, i've heard of people using TJ gears in a CJ, not 100% sure tho, soi would guess the carrier would be the same too, but not 100%

Re: Carrier Question for Dana 30!

I called a few Drivetrain places and they said it "should" be the same, the numbers for the carrier are the same up to 99 but they said couldn't imagine a difference...hmnmm

the saga continues...

Re: Carrier Question for Dana 30!

The carriers are the same for the CJ, YJ and TJ dana 30.

I think the TJ dana 44 rear used a thicker than normal ring gear for a lower ratio to stretch the range the carrier could use but I don't remember reading/hearing anything different being done in the front.
