Considering buying XJ with 100,000 Miles

I'm thinking of purchasing a 95/96 Cherokee the ones I see all have about 100K miles on them. Should that turn me off, or is the 4.0 good for a lot more when maintained?

They seem to be going for about $4k up here in NYC

Thanks

Mark.. take this question over to the XJ boys on the Mid-sized Jeep Fourm. They'll give you the straight skinny.

If you want me to move this thread there, let me know...

Re: Considering buying XJ with 100,000 Miles

A hundred grand on an XJ is just broken in! Mine has 120,000 and my mom's neighbor has two, a '93 with 225,000 and the other, an '89, with 375,000 miles! Check fluids (trans too!) and make sure everything is clean and not burned smelling. Brakes straight, steers straight, no funny engine noises? Buy it! Just make sure EVERYTHING electronic works (power windows, locks, mirrors, no flickering idiot lights/gauges etc.) when you buy it. That stuff can be expensive to replace. Also, make sure the 4WD engages. The front axle disconnect can be a concern on these.

I agree with Mike. my first MJ had a 4.0 with 223000 on it, and after i cleaned the throttle body, injectors, and ran carbon-out through the engine it ran like it was right outta the factory. Those engines are BULLETPROOF.

100k is fine as long as it's been taken care of my 89 had 236k and it ran like a top!
