Aluminum tub pics

I finally got a chance to get some pics of my Aqualu tub. I'm hoping to have everything together within the next couple of months.

I'm feeling old, that looks like pure sex to me. Any ideas for disimilar(aluminum/steel) metal corrosion? Stainless steel fasteners? Fitment problems? Keep us posted. I would like to go the aluminum route, as opposed to fiberglass, some day.

Re: Aluminum tub pics

I'm going to use SS fasteners where ever possible, coat the interior with Herculiner, and undercoat the underside with 3M undercoating. I'm also going to use zinc chromate, which I've been told is available in a grease, as an anti seize for the body mount bolts, hinge bolts, etc.. Most of the mounting points have reinforcement plates added to them so that the bolt holes can be drilled and tapped rather than having to use nuts. With the proper prep, I don't really expect to have that much of a problem with dissimilar metals though. Land Rover and a few other companies have been making aluminum bodies for years without a problem.
I haven't tried to check the fit of anything on the tub yet, but everything seems to be within factory specs from what I can tell. The frame and rollcage (with integrated seat mounts) are being custom made to fit the tub, so there shouldn't be any issues with those. I'm going with a half cab soft top from http://www.kaylinetops.com/, which should have more room for adjustment than a hard top if anything happens to be off a little.
The biggest problem that I'm having right now is finding a stock or aftermarket CJ-8 bulkhead to use with the half top. It looks like I may have to have one made which I'm sure isn't going to be cheap.

I've been told that there is a front end - fenders and hood - in the prototype stage, but they're going to be a long time coming and they're extremely ugly. Aqualu isn't going to be offering a grill as far as I know (I'm guessing that it's probably because of licensing issues with Chrysler-Daimler).
After talking to a number of folks about buffing out the body, I've decided to paint it to match my one piece front end. I've been told that buffing is a lot of work and that it's not a job for a beginner, so I'm probably going to go with black Imron or some other black aviation type paint. The aluminum looks nice, but being the anal type I want the Jeep to be all one color. Besides, Houston in the summertime is not a place to be driving around with a shiny aluminum tub. [/ QUOTE ] Have Aqualu read David and Goliath, or Vanzant vs. DaimlerChrysler. Now you should be able to get 'em to make that grille.
