Header paint

I am taking the rust off the old headers and I have painted them black with 1200 degree paint. Will this last for a while, and are there any other tips I need to keep the rust off and paint on? Thanks

Re: Header paint

Best bet is to sandblast them with fine grit , then wash them down completely with laquer thinner and air dry them , keeping the surface as clean as possible . If you have any good auto paint sources locally , try to get VHT high temp paint , it will last a long time . Let it cure for a couple of days, then once installed run the engine for a few minutes , let it cool completely, and repeat a few times to final cure it . If it's cured properly, it's amazing how tough this stuff is .
