Finished painting the dash, removed tape to find..

I finished painting the dash and removed the tape to find out that the tape peeled off the ID tag that was on my dash. I ma so upset. It was really cool to look down there and see all the information about my jeep. The year, GVW, model, etc. Does anyone know where I might be able to find a repo one? I know that I would probably have to enter the info in myself if there is one out there. Got any ideas? By the way the rest of the paint job came out ok. Not great but I was not shooting for great just good enough. Anything is better than the way it looked before.

1. What year/model?
2. I suspect that's not just an information tag.
3. It's also your VIN tag.
4. Were it I, I'd mask off that area and start trying to gently remove the paint to recover the plate.

Re: Finished painting the dash, removed tape to find..

It is a 73 CJ-5. I had taped it off before I painted the dash, but when I removed the tape the tag came off with the tape. It appeared to have been a sticker. It had the year, model, GVW, VIN, etc. The VIN is also on the steel tag under the hood. I am just being anal. I really liked having the original sticker from the factory showing on the dash. I thoguht it looked cool. This sticker was attached to the lower left side of the dash, near the headlight switch. Any ideas?

1. Well, I've got one for a CJ7... but that ain't gonna do you much good.
2. Did you save the tape?
3. If so, you could make up the VIN sticker on some Photgraphic Mylar and reproduce it...
4. But you need the original Data that's on the orignal sticker.

Is the peeled off tag / sticker totally ruined or is it just off the dash and covered in masking tape?

it came off in chinks and I could not get it seperated from the tape. The original sticker is gone. When I taped it I was not aware that the sticker was so fragile. Oh well I gues I will have to be satisfied with a smooth dash.

When mine came off it took it right down to the metal of the dash. No signs of anything that says "Void" or anythng like that.

Not sure about that particular sticker, but [American Performance has a number of reproduction type stickers. Old a/c stickers, air filter stickers, et al. Try giving them a call...not sure if the web site shows them.
