quick help please

will a transfer case from a 1988 XJ Cherokee with a automatic transmission bolt up to a 1986- 999 auto tranny? i dont know what motor the XJ had
and if anyone knows.what t case # is used in a 88 XJ with automatic.
i can get one for 35.00 and dont want to miss it if it will bolt up.Not worried about driveshafts or that stuff for now as long as it
will fit my tranny. thanks

Re: quick help please

In 1987 they introduced the world's best transfer case and some XJ models had it. It is the 242, with both 4WD for pavement, AND 4WD for sloppy surfaces, plus 4WD Lo Range of course. The XJ also came with the 231 case in 1988, a case which just has the vanilla setup, 2WD, 4WD, 4WD Lo Range. If it is the 242, you struck gold.
But,....back to your question.... Because you failed to fill out your profile, it's impossible to tell WHAT you drive. It could be an 80 Cylinder Desenberger for all we know, and the 242 doesn't fit Desenbergers.

Re: quick help please

i didnt think it mattered what i drove as long as i said what tranny was in it,a crysler/AMC/Jeep 999 automatic.
it is a 86 CJ with a 258 ,no tranny or transfer, bought it that way,i got a auto tranny in it now and need the t case to comlete drivetrain
and all i needed to know is if a 88 XJ auto t case will bolt up,ill adapt the rest as needed.

I have absolutely no idea. Why not make a post: NP231 to 999? That will get the answer in a hurry.

Re: quick help please

For $35?!!!!! ......35 bucks cash U$???? Now what did I spend on pizza and a video for the kids last Friday night ....???? Even if the guts are trashed ......the case has got to be worth more than $35.
