kickdown lingage

Sometime ago, I stumble across apost for adjusting the kickdown linkage, but now I can't seem tofind it. Does anybody know where in the archives it is, or can any of ya'll tell me how to adjust mine on a 85 CJ7 with a 258 cu.in Auto tranny? It will not kick down to a lower gear at any speed. The PO said the tranny was rebuilt. PS thanks for info on my toein, found my swaybar bushing was gone on one side. Thanks, David

Re: kickdown lingage

I have a '83 CJ-7 258/auto and it is adjusted as follows.

Locate 'slide' joint portion of linkage. It is under the carb linkage. I had a pic, I can't find it.

Loosen bolt , this captures a sort of 'wire' slide and allows it to be lenghened/shortened.

lengthen linkage and re-tighten bolt.

One other thing, first make sure the linkage is ALL there, from the carb bellcrank down to the throttle valve arm on the trans (Drivers side, above shift arm). This MUST ALL be hooked up, or that new trans will be toast in no time. The kickdown linkage not only "Kicks-down" the trans under acceleration, it also increases pressure on the internal components as load increases.
