Steering Column Removal....how to? NEW PICS

Ok, well I got my nice new dash today from 4wd Hardware and after I paint it, it'll need to go into the CJ. When I removed the old dash I just cut it below the steering column so that I could lift it up. I have a full cage in, so its a little more difficult to get in than it probly should be. I have heard of removing the steering column to install the new dash but I'm not really sure what that invovles doing. I've looked at my Haynes and Chiltons and I guess I don't get it. How hard is it to remove the column? Would I be better off cutting the new dash too to put it back in? I'd rather not I guess but if removing the column requires some funky tools and a few hours then its not worth it. This is my biggest project to date and so far its going great, I just hope the Jeep will start on the first try.

Re: Steering Column Removal....how to?

Look at the steering column where it goes through the firewall. There is a two piece plate there that clamps the column and bolts it to the firewall. After you disconnect the steering shaft under the hood, remove those pieces. From there I think you just need to unhook a connector or two and it should just slide out.

I think I get what you are saying, but I took some pictures so maybe someone can draw an arrow in to what I need to unbolt. If there is something I am missing please let me know.

Sorry for the two part posting, I was on dial-up last night. Here's the rest of the bolts you need to remove. Then remove the wiring.
