Tranny slipping - want to convert to manual

I have a 97 TJ 4.0 - transmission is slipping between 2nd and 3rd on the first time through the transition. I am assuming with a 112 kmiles that I am going to have to rebuild the tranny? Any ideas?

I checked the fluid hot in nuetral - full within a 1/2 a quart.

If I have to rebuild, I would rather replace the auto with a 5 speed manual - how difficult is this to do? How costly?

I did some searches - no hits

thanks

11. I'd almost bet there's water in the transmission....or
12. Torque Converter (perhaps mud, etc) material plugging the pump or the valve body.

Re: Tranny slipping - want to convert to manual

EXPENSIVE,

not easy, a rebuild is for siure cheaper, if I remember 2nd to 3rd shift is made with the kickdown band and at least one clutch.

IN my opinion 1/2 quart under load is probably enough to cause slippage, but that damage is most likely already done, where di that other 1/2 qt of ATF go?

if you want a stronger 5 speed stick thatn your auto your pretty much looking at the NV4500, search for that and watch all teh $$$ signs.

the 3500 is used in TJs, It might be stronger, but it doesnt have a Low 1st gear.
