OT....Name / Style of brake caliper bolt??

I've got a project at work. It involves 1/4-20 thumbscrews. It takes forever to screw the thumbscrews in, and it just doesn't seem neccessary. I was wanting to find a bolt like the ones newer cars have on the calipers. I want like 1 1/4" bolt (preferably thumbscrew) with about 1/4" of threads, but the threads should be JUST under the head. I've searched McMaster-Carr, but I don't even know what to look for!! Anybody have a "technical" name for this style of bolt? Ever seen one in a 1/4-20 thread (or similar size).

Just trying to expand my knowledge........

No idea what they are called but is sounds easy enough to make. Just put a fully treaded (tap bolt) in a drill, Put nuts over the area that you wish protected. And spin it against a grinder.

Well, making them is a good idea if I only needed one or two. But I work for a store fixture manufacturer, and we are supplying a nationwide chain of stores with these "brackets". Each bracket will have two screws/bolts.

So... anybody wanna make me say...... 10,000 bolts?

shoulder bolt isn't what you want. They have a ground diameter like 1/2" with a shoulder and 1/4" threads on the end. Try a machinists handbook. If it isn't in there than it probably doesn't exist. McMaster Carr would be the best place I could think of. Try Reid Tool, Grainger, J&L industrial supply, or Production Tool Supply.
