help with starting problem

Ok - Jeep is very hard to start now. cranks and cranks and cranks I have to do this 3, 4 or 5 times before it will start. I can use one or both batteries, and it doesn't seem to make a difference. Any ideas???? Once it is running though, it is very strong. There doesn't seem to be any loss of power.

Maybe fuel isn't getting through?
bad plugs (wouldn't there be power loss)?
starter (doesn't make sense the way it is cranking)

TIA

Re: help with starting problem

It could be the fuel system leaking down (losing pressure). Try this:
Before you start the engine, turn the key to run and leave it there for 3-4 seconds. You should hear the fuel pump cycle on, then turn off (listen hard, it may be very quiet). Now, turn the key the rest of the way and start the engine. If it fires right up, you've found the problem.

Other causes could be as simple as a worn cap/rotor, or fouled plugs. When was your last tuneup?

Re: help with starting problem

I'll check it this weekend. If that is it, what is the fix. New fuel pump.

Thanks

Re: help with starting problem

1. Your lost...
2. You need to drop back to basics.
3. Find out which you don't have:
a. Fuel
b. Spark.
4. Either could be occuring, at this point.
5. Determine if your problem lay in:
a. Ignition, or,
b. Fuel Deliver system.
