Transmission repair or replace?

I just received a best case scenario of $850-950 to repair my AX15 transmission in my 92 YJ, it could go as high as $1800. Should I consider buying a rebuilt and replacing it myself, if so where should I buy and how much might it cost?

Rebuild it yourself... thats the route I'm going to take if I ever destroy mine.

Re: Transmission repair or replace?

Getting a rebuilt and putting that in your jeep would probably be a good way to go, and you will be looking at a cost of way cheaper than 1800. But for the best deal you should pull it, and rebuild it yourself. If you have another way to get aroung that should work for you, but if you have no second vehical that might not be the way to go. Rebuilding a Standard isn't all too hard, and if you can pull the trannie I bet you can rebuild it.
