Electric Fan, 3.8L sable tourus donor???

Yes, I have heard that a electric fan from a 90-95 3.8L Taurus or Sable will move enough air to cool a V8. Has anyone ever heard this or even tried one? I am thinking I can probally get one from a junkyard for about $40 and if it will cool my 360 with a 3 core radiator I think I am going to do the swap. thanks Mike

1. Yes, I think It should work fine.
2. Just beware of the amount of mileage on the Engine.
3. Mount the Fan and have fun!

If it fits you should be fine. Those move a massive amount of air. I don't know the CFM rating but I know it's alot.

Re: Electric Fan, 3.8L sable tourus donor???

While wandering around the pick and pull one day I came across one of these. I sized it up against a rad in a FSJ and it looks like it would fit perfectly. It is pretty deep though. I think you will need at least 4" between the radiator and engine.
I think the FSJ and CJ radiators are pretty close to the same dimensions too.

Also, I have not found one yet, but I have heard that the dual fan setup from a 96-00 caravan also fits perfectly. But that would probably be a lot more expensive.

Those will be $$$. Besides I know they are WAYYYYYY wider than the taurus. (like at least 8"-12" wider)

Do 80's 3.8 tourus's have the electric fans? I think the tourus we have at school is from the 80's that i could get the fan for nothing from it, i like the idea of an electric fan that i can turn off for water crossings.

1. If it's got CPI fuel injection... it's a mechanical fan.
2. If it's got multi-point fuel injection it's an electric fan.

I'm lost. Every Taurus/Sable ever made has electric fans. (even the 2.5 TBI ones) It's just that the 3.8 ones aren't as deep as the others.
And if you meant all cars......well
Lots of Ford,GM, chrysler FWD cars all through the 80's had TBI and had electic fans. Heck, even my 84 305 Q-jet T/A had an electric fan.
I would suffice it to say that almost all FWD cars are electric. Most RWD aren't. By % at least.

Re: Electric Fan, 3.8L sable tourus donor???

When I looked into it I came up with a 90-95 Tourus, 90-95 Sable, or a 90-94 lincoln that had the 3.8 and the right fan. here is a pic of a new one. If I can get one cheap I was going to go with it, The extra power would be nice, a little gas saving and then you could shut it off for water crossings.

Has anyone had an electic fan get wet? Would the motor burn out easily? At this point if I can't get one cheap then I dont think the slight benifits are worth $100 or more.

92-94 tempo/topaz has almost the same size fan too.....a little smaller. It also has a high output and looks about the same if you need a slightly smaller one.
As far as water in the motor. It will die sooner or later but most seem to last pretty well under bad conditions.
