Cj Grill with YJ fenders

Does anyone have the link to the write up with a cj grill and yj fenders? I can't seem to find it. I Need a new radiator and a cj is $90 dollars cheaper and I always wanted a cj grill and hood so I figured now is the time to do it. I am using TJ flares on the yj fenders currently and would like to keep the same fenders to save some money. I wanted to check the site to see if that looked funny cause the fenders aren't as round in the front. thanks Mike

Re: Cj Grill with YJ fenders

I've seen this done and in my opinion its nice. I really like the look. You'll have to drill new holes to mount the fenders to the hood as the YJ fenders are longer that the CJ. Fill in the old holes and it looks great.

I remember seeing a write up, but can't recall where.

I found this site.

Search on Yahoo for "cj grill yj fenders" and a couple pop up.

Re: Cj Grill with YJ fenders

Fritz, are the YJ fenders longer than the late model CJ fenders, or just longer than the early CJ fenders? I've been thinking about getting another jeep, for the wife (she likes the idea of his and her's wheelers!) and was thinking a YJ for her since it is a little more "civilized" than my '74. However, the square headlights would have to go! Thanks!

Re: Cj Grill with YJ fenders

They're a whole lot longer than the early CJ fenders and about an inch or so longer than the late model CJ.

I plan on using YJ fenders on my CJ5 turned 6 with TJ fender flares. I like the squared fenders next to those round headlights, something balanced about it.

I too am planning on a YJ for the wife once we feel safe enough to invest in another Jeep (would bring the total to three, a CJ, a YJ, and a TJ!). She likes autos and a hardtop, so a Cherokee isn't out of the question.

Anywho..

Here's what they look like with YJ flares. I likw this guy's Jeep, except for the front bumper:

Here's some nice shots of his fenders:

Re: Cj Grill with YJ fenders

Thanks for the pics, I am deffinetly going to do it since I can probally get a hood and grill for 60-80 bucks. Then the Cj 3 core radiator is 80 bucks cheaper so it pays for itself. Mike

Re: Cj Grill with YJ fenders

In one of the write-ups there is a mention that since the Wrangler fenders are about an inch too long, it is possible to take that extra inch out of the back. This sounds good, the wheelwell would be open more at the back, especially if you then used TJ flares. Has anyone done this?
I realize it would be extra bodywork, but it's just a straight cut and weld in a piece of angle for the flange.....

Re: Cj Grill with YJ fenders

I am getting the grill and hood used from a local friend, The one I will use will probally be from an 80's CJ7.

As far as cutting the back side of the fender I think this would be a lot more work, and I am going to just weld the six bolt holes in the front. I have a lot of work to get done but I will probally have some pictures at the end of the month of how it comes out. Mike
