What\'s on my firewall?

Tearing apart my Jeep the other night, I happened upon this little tube/pipe sticking out of my firewall. Might I ask what it is and why it's just sitting their out in the open for anyone and everyone to see?

Re: What\'s on my firewall?

Looks like the drain tube from the heater box since water can get in there from the cowl.

Re: What\'s on my firewall?

Jammy, if that's the same as on my CJ, it's a drain for the heater system. Water can come in with the fresh air from the cowl. I puzzled over it quite a bit when I first saw it on my jeep too!

The CJs have a 90* elbow on that opened down. Do you need to find one?

Re: What\'s on my firewall?

My 74 has a short (2 inch) piece of hose on it. This port drains near the heater core. There is a second drain which drops out with a 1 inch diameter tube more in the center of the firewall to drain the air intake vent behind the hood in front of the windshield. Since I found no mud in the heater core drain (although the box was completely full of mouse habitat), I wouldn't worry much about adding the 90*.
