OT: FJ-40 engine parts....

Before anyone says anything, Yes I did post this on the Cruiser board, but its pretty slow over there.

A buddy has a '69 FJ-40 that he had te unfortunate experience of an oil pump going out on him. so now he's looking for engine parts like Crankshaft, Vlaves, Pistons, etc. I was wondering if any of you knew of a source for these kinds of parts.....

Thanks for anything

Re: OT: FJ-40 engine parts....

I just spoke to the local LC guy. He said for the $ it'd take to rebuild that I6, you could finance a SBC crate motor, junkyard the rest, & an adaptor bellhousing, and still come out cheaper!

BTW, '73 Buick Riviera master cylinder

Re: OT: FJ-40 engine parts....

Ya, Pegrams doing the work and has a nice Ford 302 sitting in the shop that he wants to toss in there. I'm trying to talk Derrick (the guy w/ the FJ40) into doing that and putting 4-5 in the floor as opposed to that stinking 3 on the tree crap he has now. He could do all that cheaper than rebuilding this 6 that's toast. you should see the crank I've seen concrete with smoother surfaces . Anyway, I'm gonna talk to him somemore about a conversion, just trying to help him see the light of cost comparisons.

Re: OT: FJ-40 engine parts....

Sorry I can't help on the costs of FJ parts, but do know of a cool conversion. When I was a kid, I helped my dad put a Chevy 292 I-6 in an FJ40. It belonged to a gunsmith friend, and we were doing some swappin. Anyhow, we played with this 292 a bit. It had a RV cam, dual exhaust, 4 bbl holley, ported and polished.....sort of a wish list from Clifford . Always thought that it would be a good engine in a jeep too....though I'd rather use a 300 Ford, but they are a bit bigger physically.

Re: OT: FJ-40 engine parts....

I have a 71 FJ40 sitting out back that I picked up for parts!! It has the block still but the head has been off for years!!! I don't know if a guy could even get the thing apart and there is no telling what the inside looks like. If you ever need any axle parts let me know. I picked up two cruisers for parts and needless to say I have two fron't and three rear axles.

Oh and buy the way!! Have you checked with Downey or Manafre? They deal strickly with the Toyotas. Manafre might be your best source for engine parts. I would strongly recomend swapping in the 350 for the best results. By the time you rebuild the Toy I-6 you would be close to the same price as swapping in a 350!!!

Re: OT: FJ-40 engine parts....

Me and some buddies talked him into a 302 that a friend bought to beef up, but decided not to. So know where onto figuring out what Tranny and T-case to drop behind it. Figured he might as well do it now and ditch the column shifter and 3 speed.

Thanks
