Where to buy reman 258 long block?

I am looking to buy a long block 258 for my CJ7. I do not have the time or know-how to do this myself. Local shops want anywhere from $1750 to $3200 to rebuild mine. It has 229,000 on the block and has already been built twice so I am not sure it is a viable option especially when considering price.

I have noticed that the Collins Bros sell rebuilt 258 long blocks with a 12month warranty for $1295 including a $200 core. Does anyone have any experience with engines from them.

Jasper engines has them but they seem high at about $2100, though their quality process seems excellent.

ATK engines go for about $1399 with $260 core.

Any other recommendations as to where I can obtain a 258 long block. I want to keep a 258 in it so please don't tell me to swap in a 3xx.

Thanks for you help.

Have you thought about swapping in a 350? Or a 302?

I think Quadratec sells reman'd long and short blocks. I'd check out their website or catalog. Not sure who rebuilds them though.

Jamgood,

I thought twice about not mentioning the 3xx line. Realizing someone would be compelled to jump at it.

The humor on this board is the main reason I hang around, not the tech stuff.

Thanks for the help though, it was insightful.

Re: Where to buy reman 258 long block?

A local shop with a good reputation, quoted me $960 for a complete rebuild, takes about a week to get back. I've seen local engine remanufacturers advertise in the nickel ads for $1095 for a rebuilt 4.0. I would be suprised if you can't find something comprable locally.

Re: Where to buy reman 258 long block?

Hi,
I'm in the same boat & was going to go with a long block from Autozone, about $1400, 12 month warrenty & $250 core-
buuut, decided to go with a short block & buy a 4.0 head from a mid 90's jeep for that extra 40 HP!
It's not all together yet (my Winter project) but once it is & I recover from the loss of $$ I'll then be able to go EFI from there-
just my 2

Try this place - pretty good prices and they have a few custom options as well...
