OT - What util to text search multiple PDF files?

I have several service manuals as PDF files (around 90 per vehicle)
and no index or toc for them. Is there some program I can use to
search all PDF files in a directory for a particular text? Acrobat
Reader does it only one-by-one.

Another option maybe some software that will let me create a toc and
searchable index of all PDF files in directory.

Adobe Acrobat (not the Reader version) will let you search text. You can either buy it or download it.

ALU is partially correct. The full Acrobat lets you do text searches (Edit>Search>Query). But, it is not available as a free or trial download from Adobe, and it is a $200+ software. You may be able to get it from Kazaa or somewhere like that, but I'm always leery of downloading stuff from there due to a hugh virus problem. If you do manage to download it make sure you get the serial # because Adobe products, like MS requires it for installation. BTW, what manuals do you have?

I just tried it (I have the full Acrobat ). It does the work. Just one thing: I have a couple of catalogues in PDF. They're scanned images of the real-paper catalogue (mostly they are), so there you cannot "search for text" since there is no text.
...just check & see if those manuals you have are scanned or typed in, before getting the $200 licence... or a biggie-download
