Who\'s tcase shifter is to far back?

Hey all,

I have a chevy 305, TH400, D20 Tcase. My tcase shifter is a bit further back than I would like. Anybody have any solutions?

1. Move the drive train forward?
2. Heat and bend the heck outta the Transfer Case shifter?

I don't see too many other options here...

Any one else care to cover this?

Jersey do you have the 8 mile long z-box shift pattern version in there already or is it the standard stick right above the t-case? The TH400 and dana 20's in cammandos and wagons often had a extended linkage (might be what you have already). If it is not and you need a picture I have one in my garage and can snap a pic.

I'm not sure if *ALL* D20s have the "extension" pipe for the crappy "J" or "U" shifter (Jeepster/Commando/Wag/J-series). If it does, simply extend it out (forward) a bit and hang your linkage off it. If it doesn't, maybe it's just a bolt on(?). I can check this evening... It's too cold and the Jeep is filthy!

Re: Who\'s tcase shifter is to far back?

I took my dana 20 and moved my shifter ahead 10 1/2 in. All i did is take the tube out of the tranfercase and put another tube in that was bent up a couple of inches to clear the dipstick tube ( if you don't do this you won't get you dipstick tube in) and then i welded it to the stock tube. Then i cut the rod and added 10 1/2 in. super easy and took a couple of hours.
