YJ vibration/shake at speed - Please not tranny!

I have a 93 with an ax-5 and 2.5L. Here is what I have observed -
1. Starts out about 25 mph and again about 40 mph. Pretty bad at 55 mph.
2. Stops when the clutch is in.
3. Can't reproduce it with the motor alone, has to be in gear.
4. Unrelated(?) intermittent, irregular metallic screeching noise coming from underneath - almost like a metal coat hanger rubbing with some force against a piece of metal - not a quiet noise. This noise started a couple weeks ago.

Anybody have an idea? Cheap, easy fix right?!?

Oh, yeah. And I have checked the tranny fluid color and level within the last month and they were both good. Just thought of checking for metal shavings just now - please God, no.

Can't say I'm familiar with your set-up, but applying those signs to mine, I'd say check your Tranny mount. I know a bolt came loose on mine and I had the shakes like your describing. as for the screaching noise, maybe Throwout bearing? does it make a difference when the clutch is in or out? or if you are in gear with clutch in?

just a couple things to think about/ check.
