401?? on ebay

Saw this 401 on Ebay, started looking at pictures and saw the pict of the heads, manifolds, and variuos parts. sitting on top of the intake is what looks like a 2 brrl MC???? I thought all 401's came with a 4 brl? not to mention he said it came out of his CJ5, which means it MUST'VE been swapped in already ( granted that's a good possibility). what do you all think?

Re: 401?? on ebay

I sent him a message asking for a picture of the displacement cast on the side of the block.

He replied very quickly. Here is a picture of the head I think.

Re: 401?? on ebay

I can't get to the pictures for some reason, but I'm guessing from the tone of the reply that it is a 401. I thought all 401's had 4brls? Hmm? I guess I was mistaken. Oh well, Thanks

Re: 401?? on ebay

A 2 barel intake will fit right on a 401.

Re: 401?? on ebay

the 401s that IH used from AMC in some trucks they labeled as 400s I think, and those are the only factory 2bbl 401s ive seen or heard of.

so I would assume that engine originally came from an international truck, OR someone reused a 304-360 intake on this one, but who knows!

Re: 401?? on ebay

I would also ask him for a pic of the top of a piston and a cylinder wall, its a goldmine if they are factory bore, but not too much of a bargain at any price if they are already 0.030 over and it needs another bore to clean up
