T176/D300 or T18/D20

OK, if you had both of these combos sitting around, which would you put in your jeep... just a personal preference/opinion question - oh and the D300 is a short shaft.

(I know the gear ratios/details on each)

18/20 with out even thinking about it. Low first gear, of the 18, and the 20 with twin stick. That would be quite a set up.

Re: T176/D300 or T18/D20

...for me it depends on whether this Jeep is DD, trail only or both - together with how hardcore and where I plan to wheel ...how big tires and what engine.

Transfer cases are kinda a wash... but since they aren't easily interchangeable I guess you get what you have. No big, right?

T176 gets nod for DD with slick shifting and 4 useable gears while zipping around town and trail playing.

T18 gets nod for trail oriented and powerful engines because trans is more HD and super crawl granny gear for inching over rocks or trees or stuff - plus powerful engines don't so much need lots of gear ratios to maintain their powerband for any speed.

I think you should go T18/20, then sell the T176/300 to a BBS member that lives in South Carolina. Or maybe just give it to him!! Help a fellow jeeper out!! I'm sure he'd tell everyone what a TRUE jeeper you are!!! Hell..... he'd probably even give you a "jeep wave" on his way home!!!

yeah... that's what I'm thinking you should do....

Re: T176/D300 or T18/D20

if i had to choose between just those two i would say the t-18 and d20 but for the ultimate setup i would go with a sm420 (i got one ) and a dana 300 with a 4to1 low gear i got the tcase too just waiting to find the dough to get the adapter and the low gear conversion
