Strange noise in a Wrangler

I have a 97 stock Wrangler. Whenever it articulates in 4hi & 4lo there is a strange knocking noise coming from the front. Do you have any idea what this might be?

Re: Strange noise in a Wrangler

If it only happens in 4wd, my guess would be a Ujoint. How long has it been since they have been replaced. If they have never been replaced, and the Jeep is a 97, then I Really believe that they are probably Ujoints. Changing them would be a good place to start, even if that does not fix the problem, at least you have a new set and a piece of mind.

If the u joints were the cause of the problem, would it still make the noise in park?
