Woo-Hoo! I found a tranny!

I finally found the tranny I've been looking for for months! TF-999, ready for a rebuild. $215. Problem is, the guy wasn't 100% sure it's a 999. It might be the 904. He said the only way to tell is to take it apart and look at the size of the "sun gear?" It's the gear that passes through the metal "bowl" looking thingy. If it's the same size on either side, it's a 904. If it's larger inside the bowl, it's a 999.

Does this make sense? Is there an easier way to tell?

Re: Woo-Hoo! I found a tranny!

I read this from a google search- it rings a bell from what I have heard in the past:

TF-998/9 can be indentified from the 904 by the two external ribs on the
case above the rear servo

If there is room for a tf727 check this out, I still think its a bit overpriced for a core, but..

1. Obtain the transmission number.
2. Take the number to a DC parts counter.
3. Have DC run the number.
4. Thats a way to find if it's a 999 or 904 without taking it apart.
