Found this at a gas station down the street from me. Looked cool so I stopped buy and asked the guy about it. He said it's a 1965 Jeep, but doesn't know what kind, and I'm not too sure about it either, heh. He said 12 years ago it was stolen from the owner but it was a pile of junk when it was stolen. Just recently the border patrol calls the owner up and tells him they found his stolen jeep! And if that's not enough, apparently the guy that stole it fixed it up while he had it! So the owner doesn't want it and is trying to get rid of it. He's asking 3500 for it. What do yall think? The guy selling it didn't know anything about if it had the engine/tranny rebuilt so I think i'll try to get in contact with the owner and see if he can shed some light.
It's definately an early CJ-5, Looks pretty nice too! Does it have a V8? V6? 4 cyl? If it's in nice shape, body and frame and drivetrain wise, $3500 is a pretty good price. Let us know what you find out. Does the owner still have the title for it? That would be a big selling point.
Thats amazing, get your jeep stolen, fixed up by the thief and then returned! Pretty slick looking jeep. If the rest of it is as nice that would be a fair price. I would dicker with him a little, never hurts. Offer him $2500 for it and see what happens. Good luck!
Its a 4 cylinder. Just looking at it, it seems to be in good shape. Maybe I'll take it for a test drive tomorrow. A funny thing, that bikini top you see? Thats just some plastic mesh held together with bungy cords. And whats that renovado? That's just some sticker the guy put on there after he stole it huh? It's not like a Mexican Jeep?
My Wife, who is Mexican, says renavado means rebuilt or refurbished. I would be tickled pink, I mean drab green, if my stolen Jeep was returned to me in better condition then when it was stolen. Lucky guy and lucky you if you buy it.
