Help me decide!

I now have a choice between narrow track & wide track axles D30, M20 for the 81. I got a 82 for parts and it has the wide track axles. So a couple of questions.

1. I take it that the gears and carriers are the same so they can be swapped between the 2 correct?
I need the gears & carrier from the WT for another NT front anyway.

2. If it was your Jeep which ones would you use and what are some pros & cons between them?

Again this is stricly a trail Jeep and I plan on running 31x15.50-15 terra's on 10-13" rims with a lincoln locker in the rear and a lock right up front. I can also do all the work myself so it won't really add any expense except for some shims and possably bearings.

Re: Help me decide!

there are NO advantages to the narrow trac axles. wider is better..more stability on the trail and the replacement axles are easier to find.
all the other parts will interchange with the possible exceptions being the brakes. there were also differences between the years in locking hubs.

Re: Help me decide!

Elusive is right. I think the year break for brakes and hubs went along with the narrow/wide track axles. The narrow track's had bigger rear brakes and better front hubs. I'd use the widetrack axles with the narrow track's brakes & hubs/rotors/calipers/mounting brackets. They should swap just fine
