Leg rest ?

I saw one in 4WD catalogue (I think it's them, doesn't matter). There's a piece of metal, attached instead of the bottom door-hinge (the body-side) which is very nice idea to put your leg at when cruising doorless. Now, since I don't wanna loose the hinge ('cos I'll need it), I was wondering if the hinge itself is strong enough to support some home-made piece of metal & a foot on it?
Any ideas? Or maybe somebody saw a similar idea with different solution somewhere?

Re: Leg rest ?

yes the hinge is strong enough. on one of my jeeps in the past, i went to the motorcycle boneyard and picked up a couple of fold down footpegs. i welded a bolt on em long enough to go thru the hinge and be secured with a lock washer and nut. i also know somebody that has used the pegs that kids use on their bikes that go on the front and rear axles, the ones used to stand on. $10 a pair at walmart.

Re: Leg rest ?

If the hinge is strong enough to support a steel door it better be strong enough to hold a leg. I've been thinking of making one of these myself using a bike footpeg or just welding some peices together to stick in the hinge.

Re: Leg rest ?

I have a bud with a lifted Jeepster (efi67jeepster) that has them. I was so impressed (and enjoy hanging my leg out in the summer), I bought a set of dirtbike footpegs for $5. I still haven't got around to putting them on, but should be a "go" for warmer weather.
