The Trip from Hell!

LEVE's back.. and the CJ's safe in the yard!

The trip was hell... the Ryder 24 foot van broke down 4 times in 300 miles. 4 days later the swap vehicle came and it broke three more times. Don't ever rent me a truck.

Dang, I hate it when someone else is the mechanic.

I'll start catching up after Thanksgiving.

I wish a happy thanksgiving day to all!

Re: The Trip from Hell!

Welcome back anyway.

Did you demand a reduced rate? Did you do any of the fixes and present them with a bill? U-Haul is no better, I had similar problems.

Welcome Back LEVE!!

Just be glad you got there in one peice. I would demand a reduces rate or my money back for all the problems. I would not take that from any one. Let us know how this turns out.

Re: The Trip from Hell!

Glad you made it back safely. I use Penske whenever I can because they have always been good to me and their trucks seem fairly new and well maintained. Probably because they rent to businesses where any loss of time is major loss of money.

So how stuffed was the Cj with the wife's stuff?

Re: The Trip from Hell!

That sounds familiar.....a year ago my kitty and I made a six-day oddysey from CA to Iowa and we made friends with several different International Harvester Truck dealerships; the U-Haul main repair depot in CA; and a few independent repair shops as we rebuilt the U-Haul truck in stages. I back-charged them for the extra days we spent on the road and they paid it. By the time we got to Iowa the truck was "ready to go"......all the repairs had been made. Re: The Trip from Hell!

Javajeeper, the trip was uneventful for weather related problems. The worst weather was at Bozeman... and that was rain (of course that's when the Ryder Truck's winshield wipers decided to desert the truck at 60mph). The area between Butte and Spokane was beautiful... light snow in the trees.

On the road there was NO snow or ice. If I had to be trailering a Jeep behind a 24' Rental Truck... I could not have asked for better road conditions. It was the only bright spot of the trip.

Re: The Trip from Hell!

Yeah those trucks have been to hell and back also. About 2 years ago I rented one of those uhaul trucks that are about the size of a small semi and it was having problems above 55mph. I called uhaul and said that I wanted a new truck and they refused. I told them that if I went above 55 i thought the engine would blow. They sent a mechanic out and he said, just blow it! So i cranked it up to 65 and ran the thing 500 miles and it sounded more like sh*t every mile, but it made it.
