Jeep CJ Rearend Noise and Vibration

I'm out here in Germany with my 85 CJ. Recently, I started feeling rumbling type of noise/vibration while I am driving. My CJ has the stock AMC 20 and Moser 1 piece axles. How can I tell is this is the ring and pinion or something like the bearings? There really are no Jeep repair shops out here, not even on base. I would really appreciate any advice you can give me on what this could be so that I can get my CJ back out on the Autobahns!!!

Check the easy stuff first, like a ujoint. Easy enough to check, just grab the driveshaft at the yoke and see if there is any play in the ujoint. A bad ujoint will give you exactly the symptom you are describing.

Re: Jeep CJ Rearend Noise and Vibration

Thanks. I'll try that today and see what happens. Who knows, maybe I'll get real lucky and that will be it. Just in case, what would you check next? Thx.
