Rim spacing

Help...TJ expert! Trying to get correct rim spacing for tires!!
I just purchased a 97 wrangler and install a RE 3.5 in lift. 33x12.5 inch tire did not come close with my 8 inch American racing black steel rims. They hit the frame instantly. With the stock SE rims, the tires don't even leave more than a half inch from the frame. I need to know how fat of a 33'' tire I can put on these 8 inch rims,.. I think the back spacing on these is 4 inches. Do I need to go as narrow as a 9.5? with 9.5 eveb work?

Re: Rim spacing

the best solution is either a 9.5" tire or 10" rims. the 10" rims have better backspacing that will allow for the 12.5" tires. however, the tires will stick out of the fenders 1.75" and will be legal in most states, but not all.
you can also get different backspacing on 8" rims for the same effect.
