four wheel steer.

Im a lunatic and im kinda bored. So this idea pops into my head the other day. Having a non Jeep vehicle tha has a Dana 18 and thinking intermittently about four wheel steer. How would that work out? The thought was to use a Dodge Dana 44 for the front axle and a Ford Dana 44 for the rear axle- this way the bolt patterns are the same, and the pumpkin offsets are right too, now here is the crux of my question- beacuse they are both front axles, will they 'fight' eachother when turning the asme direction? or should i forget about this idea entirely? Curiosity overruns my feeble mind from time to time, basically i want to know is whe its in 4x (if i should try it) will the wheels rotate in the same direction?

Thanks
Jesse

Re: four wheel steer.

It depends on what you do with the axel in back. If you roll it front to back, and then flip the pumpkin over, so that the top is now on the bottom, it will go the opposite direction.

If you turn it around, so that the right knuckle is now on the left, it will turn the same direction as the front. But you'll have to reposition the ball joint yokes to correct the caster.

Re: four wheel steer.

It seems as if the rear will be pushing on the back-side of the R&P gears to do forward, not as strong as pushing the front side of the gears.
