Re: AX-5 Stuck in Gear
I ordered a trans trough the mail once. It was locked in gear when I got it. basically UPS dropped it, and it slipped into gear. It is a long story but with the gear shift I couldn't get it out of gear. I had to use a screw driver to pop it out of gear. then all was good.
with my AX-15 there are three shift rails. in the tail housing. each rail has a notch. when your gear box is in neutral the three notches should be lined up. this will allow the gear selector finger( connected to the gear shifter) to be moved side to side between the three rail notches.
when you shift into gear, you are moving one of the shift rails out of the center(neutral position) and into gear. the gear selector finger will move with the shift rail and cannot be moved back to the neutral position without pulling the engaged shift rail back to neutral.
how it gets stuck.... if the trans is shipped in neutral the finger is in the neutral position pointing to the center rail ( the rail that controls 3rd and forth). if the Trans is dropped the 5 th - reverse rail or the first- second rail will slide to engage a gear. but the finger didn't go with it, so the finger can not pull it out of gear.
so take a good look in side your tail housing, move the gear shifter side to side and you should be able to see the finger sliding in the notches. make sure it can slide between all three. if not use a screw driver to move the rails so all three are lined up.
PS this same thing happens when people get in wrecks.
