Pittman arm question

After the AFW frame swap, the pittman arm ball joint is just touching the tie rod. It appears the main spring eye mount may be about 1/2" further forward than it was on the OEM frame. AFW is sending me a pair of spring perches but I was also thinking, and they mentioned the possibility, of using a slightly shorter pittman arm. I realize that this would make the steering slightly less responsive but that would be a good thing.

This is an '80 CJ7, I have been told that the YJ is slightly shorter and there are some others that might work. I need one about half an inch shorter from the steering box spline to the ball joint hole. I DEFINITELY DON'T WANT TO CUT AND WELD THE ONE I HAVE. Any suggestions? Anybody got one from a YJ they could measure?

Not sure about YJ lengths, but I ran into a similar problem when I did a high clearance steering set-up. After rummaging through some various stock arms, I settled on a drop pitman arm that I had re-tapered from the topside at a machine shop...1.5 " per ft. taper, I believe.... This had two advantages: The arm was shorter and gave me clearance from the tie rod, and because the tie rod end was now on top of the pitman arm it gained some protection from errant rocks. If you go this route, bring a tie rod end with you so that the machinist can periodically check the depth.

try to get a pitman arm from a mid 70's dodge truck.. i have one from a 4x4.. they are about an inch shorter.. works great..
