Rear axle to match W/T FSJ Cherokee front D44?
Seems like all the searches for FSJ Cherokee axle widths turn into debates like square vs round headlights, so I am confused with numbers & have a question.
I have aquired a 1979 Dana 44 with 6 lugs 65" wms/wms width from a FS Cherokee, which from my searching equates to a wide track.
I have decided to not go the Chevy 44/14 bolt route (too wide) and am looking for alternatives for the rear. I am not cutting down the front, so rear needs to be about 63" wide & centered pumpkin would prefer not to cut down something.
I have come up with 70-80's IH p/u's D44 about 64" wide,
J series p/u's D44 not sure of years w/o quadratrac 63" wide (78 earlier?)
Ford 8.8 with adaptors for bolt pattern could be up to 63"
Ford 9" from early Broncos, varying widths from what I found.
Before I go scrounging around with tape measurer, anyone have some starting points of what years Cherokee/J truck/ etc that would have a centered D44 about 63" wide, or any other pros/cons to the Ford stuff. I can go six lug rear to match the front, or convert the front to 5 lug also.
