Something broke... Whats your guess?

hey all,

We went to paragon this past weekend... Yuck, it was wet. Anyhow - I had some problems.. .Well I had a lot of problems this time.

Shattered a glass in my hard top, carb problems, and now something up front with my rear.

I was trying to climb up some rocks when we noticed that my front tires weren't spinning. We don't know if we heard anything brake or if it was my jeep scraping the rocks trying to get over them.

After finally getting on flat ground. I hit the gas on the dirt road to verify that the front wasn't spinning.. (drive shaft is though)

We opened the cover when we got back to our cabin and with a little light we couldn't see anything to be wrong. it was raining so we didn't go crazy and look to hard.

Both hubs are ok.

I have a D30, 4:88s and a lock right. I have never broken an axle or joint.. My guess is the lock right is trashed. Possible?

Re: Something broke... Whats your guess?

Check your Tcase. believe it or not you actually have a 2low on the D20, but it's not indicated on the shifter. make sure you are fully engaged into 4high/low. I actually just found this out this past weekend I'll see if I can get intouch withteh guy that informed me of this and confirm the actual position. I had similar happenings to me and this explained my problems.

Re: Something broke... Whats your guess?

In full synch withthe rear driveshaft spin too? you will get some spin from the front driveshaft, but not much.... If your front shaft is appying power to the diff, and you checked the diff and didn't see anything wrong and your hubs are in good condition, ( assuming the axles are good too, I'd imagine you would know when the axles broke ) I would step back to the Tcase again. are you locked up front?

Re: Something broke... Whats your guess?

4wd - both shafts are spinning (rear tires are turning)
Front D30 has a lockright.
Hubs are not busted.

I assume that either the lock right or axle splines are gone. Or I sheered off the pinion.

HOWEVER, While on the trailer - With hubs locked, I spun the drive shaft by hand. It spins about 1/4-1/2 turn freely and than something grabs. Axle spin a tiny bit when it grabs...

Now that its home and not raining hard I will pull the cover off again and look further inside.

Re: Something broke... Whats your guess?

thats correct. I have yet heard anything that would tell me that there are broken parts.

Is it possible that I could have taken out the splines on the lockright?

Re: Something broke... Whats your guess?

Ya, I guess it's possible, but I would think you would know when it happened, or you would have signs of it starting to occur how old is the Lock right? did you check the diff fluid out when you dumped it? looking for slivers of metal......
