Defrost upgrade question

I have a 74 cj5 which has the really small openings for the defroster. Has anyone made any type of a mod. to these openings? Is it possible to cut the dash and place in some later model vent openings? Should I go ahead and upgrade the blower? I know the defroster in a jeep is not the best, but surely their is something I can do to make it work better. What has worked for you guys?
Yes, I did read the post and I am not going to try the RainX or FogX stuff, I want a real fix!
Thanks!

Re: Defrost upgrade question

I think the small openings are sufficient for the system to work properly. I have a 74 also and while I am not satisfied with the stock performance, here is what I am doing to rectify it. Yesterday I replaced the windshield frame gasket and replaced the stock ill-fitting cardboard plenum with a new plastic one from JC Whitney (made a big difference). I am going to look into the blower motor upgrade later today, I am going to rfmove my blower motor and find out how it's all put together and go to AutoZone and find out if the Blazer blower motor will fit in my application without too much trouble (I think it will, even though the upgrade mentioned in this forum is for later model CJ's). I will also check my heater coil. I suspect the heater coil is not working properly (partially plugged or blocked with debris). I will keep you posted as I make my way thru this.....gotta do it quick, it snowed here yesterday.....lol

Re: Defrost upgrade question

Leve listed a whole bunch of upgrades a couple weeks ago. I would do a search for Leve and see what comes up under heater and blower questions.

Best regards
