Is a Super Top any good??

I am interested in buying a Bestop Super top for my 88 Wrangler. How is the quality, how do they hold up in the winter, do they leak and is it a good investment? Any help would be appriciated.

A Bestop Supertop is probably the best you can buy. It seals better and attaches with velcro and heavy plastic lips around the bottom instead of snaps. The doors seal well and you can take the top half off in hot weather.

Re: Is a Super Top any good??

If Bestop is the best that you can buy, then that's probably too bad. I've had one for about 5 years for my 93 YJ. It basically works OK, and the vinyl is still in good shape. However, the hardware is what keeps braking on mine. The little hinges which mount the door frame struts to the roof broke a long time ago. I have the doorframe struts just wedged in there, but they fall out real easy; they're basically held in by the side vinyl panels. When I phoned Bestop for a new part, or a new frame, they said that I had to buy a whole new complete kit! Just to replace the spar hinges, or whatever they're called. They won't even sell me the entire frame assembly! "We don't piece part out any of the hardware," they said as an explanation. I've gotta buy a whole new kit! So, I'm limping along with what I have.
Like I said, their top works OK, the fabric part is no problem, but the hardware is flimsy (some parts are plastic), and they provide no support for repairing the hardware. But since they effectively had no competition, they don't have to provide customer service.

Re: Is a Super Top any good??

I've had mine since March. I had a problem with one of the brackets and they sent a replacement no charge. My only complaint is that Bestop doesn't make the half door uppers with the sliding glass that will work with the Supertop. When I bought mine, Leon Rosser was the cheapest.

Re: Is a Super Top any good??

Well I can add my opinion here.... I just recieved my Supertop for my 93 YJ, and I'm very displeased. IMHO, the factory soft-top fit better. I've seen a Bestop on my friend's jeep with no problems, so I feel I've just gotten a defective top. Mine leaks from the front windshield and the overhead center seam.

ON a plus side, the hardware is fantastic. It's much easier to take down/put up the top.

I'm just kinda ill because after installing the top 2 days ago, a rain front moved in and there's been a steady rain for the past 48 hrs. Needless to say, that hardtop on ebay is looking attractive...
