TR Ignition upgrade Spark plug ?

This weekend, I am going to do the "TR Ignition upgrade" http://www.swbbbs.freeservers.com/teamrush.htm
Is it OK to use the Champion 4412 plugs I have, and just re gap them to 45 instead of the 35 they are now ?????

I did do a search In fact I have spent most of today reading the
"Posers Telling Tall Tails To The New Guys... "thread OH MY GOSH !!!!
I am new to the JEEP board, and to anyone else who has not read this one, you should definetly go read it.
I must say "Team Rush" know's a lot of $hit (some stuff no one should know
I can now make rock lights out of a dill pickle
and cook a hot dog (Or fish sticks) with my alternator !

Re: TR Ignition upgrade Spark plug ?

My preference is to use autolite's and TR RECOMENDED them as his choice too. I hate the bosch ones and I just took champions out of a buddys that were 6 months old and looked like crap. He never had a problem w/ the autolites but wanted to try something different.(fancy black 4X4 truck ones) He won't be going back to those again.

Re: TR Ignition upgrade Spark plug ?

Have you done this mod ?

also I dont completely understand one point
Is he saying it's better to also switch to the E-core (TFI) coil, is better than switching to the ford round (can) coil ?
Since I'm changing coils I may as well go with the one thats best

Re: TR Ignition upgrade Spark plug ?

GO with the E style coil. It's wayyyyyyy better.( you already have the round coil) Thats really the "key" part. And yes I have done it. (and almost 20 others too)

Re: TR Ignition upgrade Spark plug ?

Coming from an ALL CHEVY background HEI was my first choice! "stick with what you know" kinda thing but tracking down all the pieces sounded like a real nightmare not to mention expen$ive and then reading all the search info I found today, confinced me this was the easier/BETTER way to go.
(But I do think I will wear a disguise to the parts store to buy Phord parts ) oh the shame

Re: TR Ignition upgrade Spark plug ?

I have to admit the same chevy background and my persoal love of the HEI. My only reason for changing was TR's COMPLETE background and explanation of what keeps a duraspark alive. I'll be the first to admit that I always hated them. They had left me stranded over the years due to the module on the very few fords I had owned. After he explained WHY they failed (for the most part) then I thought it was worth a try.(I had seen many drag racers over the years use them on all kind of engines) It was never that I didn't like the HEI. It wasn never that I loved the duraspark. I just like upgrades that can be had on every parts shelf in the USA. I can't say that about the gear off certain years of AMC 360's needed to make the HEI work in a AMC 258. Thats why I when that way. And it has worked great for me and many others. Best of all.............it's sooooooooo cheap. Just like me.
