***EMERGENCY ? about rear driveshaft and u-joints!

I have a badly thrashed rear u-joint on my rear driveshaft, but sadly cannot afford a new one till payday on friday. I took out my rear driveshaft and locked up the front and put it in 4Hi. Will this be ok to drive to work 12 miles each way with no higher speeds than 45mph for the next 2 days. Total no more than 55 miles?????

I wouldn't think it'd be too bad. I drove about 30-40 miles on my front end with a Detroit locker. That was a bit of a handful. I got up to 50mph though and felt pretty safe about it. That was on the straights though.

It won't hurt a thing, except that the steering might feel a little funny. I lost a the Jesus clip out of a rear joint once in Nevada. I drove for several hours before I found a garage with the right clip in a the coffee can on the window sill.

Yea I have had to do it once before also but for a very short distance just to get it home when I spun the 2 peice hubs before I put in my 1 peice axles. I just want to make sure it won't bind up anything and mess up any of my other drivetrain parts which currently are in perfect working order.

Won't hurt a thing, but steering will be a little lethargic. Just something to be aware of.

drive it just give your self some extra time. I think autozone cheepe joints are like $12, i'd start diging in the couch for change, it's amazing what you can come up with diging to find change. I'd love to see the guy at autozone count out the change to pay for a u-joint.

I'm assuming you don't have the slip yoke design on your TC for your drive shaft. If not, just be careful and try to avoid slow tight turns.

Re: ***EMERGENCY ? about rear driveshaft and u-joi

I did a trip halfway from 29Palms,CA to Vegas and back like that with no problems. The steering will be a little strange and the jeep will lack the pick up it may have had before, but other than that it should be fine. When you get the money pick up a couple of spares too. It's always good to have a replacement for just about everything that you can fit in your jeep
