What will take clear coat off wheels?

What can be used to remove old , ugly clear coat off of
alloy wheels? It has to bee strong enough to take the clear coat off but not screw up the aluminum.

Re: What will take clear coat off wheels?

I just took the coating off of some chrome wheels. I used aircraft stripper. Worked great but I have a bit of scratching where I used an abrasive pad on some stubborn areas. They're so shiny now, though that it's hard to see any blemishes. (Ouch.) Used a soft vegetable brush and a plastic putty knife on most of it.

I would let it sit for a good while before you attempt to take it off, say 20 minutes. I was a bit impatient. I'm planning on sandblasting and painting mine eventually, anyway so I didn't mind a few scratches.
