Oil Pressure Sending Unit

My son and I are rebuilding a 258 to put in his 1989 Wrangler. We are in the process of putting together everything we need so we can pretty much take his present engine out and drop in the "new" one. On his present 258 there is a fitting screwed into the block on the rear of the passenger side with a oil pressure sending unit and another sending unit that is not mentioned anywhere in the books we have. I unplugged it and all of the gauges still seem to work. When I plug it back in I can hear the engine rpms change and it seems like it puts additional load on the alt. Does anyone know what this might be?

Re: Oil Pressure Sending Unit

The other one is an oil pressure switch that enables the intake heater when the engine is running. There is thermostat in the intake that shuts off the heater once the coolant reaches 160 degrees or so.

Check this paper out. I think you will like it:

http://www.off-road.com/jeep/tech/258bbd/main.htm

The archival paper at the above off-road.com site is:

Tech Notebook
A Primer on the Jeep 258 with Carter BBD & Pulse Air Emission System. by: Dale Beckett

If you cannot get there by inserting the above in your URL address bar, just do a search of the ORC's archives for the title of the document.

Re: Oil Pressure Sending Unit

Thanks..went there and printed out a bunch of stuff. We have a 3-ring binder that we are using for all this kind of info. We have the nutter bypass on the jeep and a weber carb., but it is nice to know what some of that stuff does as some of it is still being used.
