What Tranny and T-case was in this F-150?

Went down to Flordia this weekend to a place I call camp, the guys there keep some sort of old beater there all the time. seen anything from old Power wagons, to CJ's. this time they had an early 80's model F-150 w/ a six cyl, 4 speed, and 4wd. I got in to take it for a ride and of course the first thing I look at is what tranny it is. Didn't recognize the shifter for the tranny or t-case, but as soon as I put it in gearand started on in 1st I had to stop and jump to look underneath. Sure as hell looked like a T-18 case to me and felt like the granny low too. but the shifter looked about as bent up as an SR-4. the T-case shifter came out from almost under the bench seat and to the left of the tranny shifter. but I didn't think that ford continued the T-18 into the 80's with the T-18. Is it possible to adapt the Ford 4wd t-18 to a CJ? you always read about the 2wd not the 4wd. the guy tried selling the truck for $700 but no buyers so he donated it to camp. Anyone know what kinda drive train this one would have?

The tranny might have been a NP435 - that has a granny low & was in the ford trucks until 1990 I believe. Here is a picture of various trannys from the novak adapters site:

its either a T18 or a NP435, the 435 has an aluminum top cover.

dont know about what Tcase, probably a Np208 or a BorgWarner case.

mainshaft ( output shaft) has to be changed to adapt it to a Dana20 or dana 300, and thats why most folks just get the 2wd version.

Where's reverse on the NP435? this was 4 spd with Rev. out and down, like the later T-18's
