Finally pics of my fenders.

Well i finally did it. I wasnt sure if i wanted to or not but i finally cut them. I love the flatty look, but i still love the CJ fender look. But after taking my stock flares off and seeing how bad my tires were chewing at the fenders i knew i didnt have a choice.

On the tire you can see the rubber belt that will be used for fender flares.

If you look you can see how my best friend (body man) flared the fender out for my new fender flares.

Re: Finally pics of my fenders.

Looks great, Jim!! What'd you use to cut them? Sawzall? How'd you decide where to mark them?

That looks super! I want to do something very similar to my CJ, but my dad thinks doing so will ruin the Jeep. I'll just show him these pictures and let him decide then. Great job!!

Re: Finally pics of my fenders.

Nice trim job! I did the same thing to my 86 last year but I used extra wide YJ flares. Across the front I just trimmed the fender and flare together for the same look. I used a combination of a sawzall for the rough cut then cleaned it up with a grinder. I've found that by timming stock fenders in this fashion does leave them pretty weak and easily bent with a little pressure. I found out just how easily last year when climbing from the cab to the front bumper to get the winch cable without sinking up to my waist in muck. I've been thinking of making up some kind of supports out of small diameter tubing but haven't yet gotten to it.

Re: Finally pics of my fenders.

My fenders are still pretty strong since we put that flare in there. It kinda acts like a piece of angle iron. I am still going to make somekind of tube support under the fender. It should be pretty easy to fab up.

When i cut mine i just used a die grinder with a 4in cut off wheel. I hate sawzalls they just chew up to many things.

Re: Finally pics of my fenders.

Did you (anyone else can chime in too) cut them while they were still on the jeep, or did you remove them first?

Looks great. I love the flat fender look too. Can't wait to get mine going. I think I going to do something like Wayne did on PYRO using tubing and some treadplate. I gotta have the clearance too!

Yes, looks good. Front tires look like slicks, hehe. Where did you get your brake hoses. I got mine from In-line tube and the fitting for thr rear axle was wrong. Had to send it back for the correct one(havn't got it yet).

Re: Finally pics of my fenders.

If you mean the rubber flex hose. I got them from Quadratec. I had no problems with them at all.

Re: Finally pics of my fenders.

I cut mine while still on the Jeep. I made up a cardboard template so each side would look alike. I'm not sure I could get my fenders off without snapping or stripping out some bolts. They're pretty rusty and haven't been touched in 16 years.
