Jeep 2.5L Turbo Diesel

Look what I found on the 4Bangers web site 2.5L/Turbo Diesel
Displacement:2,499cc. Power:104 kW/140bhp. Torque: 320N-m/236 lb-ft.
Boy I wish I had the cash for that. The perfect Jeep motor........... IMHO

EDIT>> Sorry auction has ended.

Re: Jeep 2.5L Turbo Diesel

How much did it sell for?
Personaly I cant see a small diesel as the perfect Jeep engine, because the fumes make me notiouse. We wheeled with a diesel Sniper at the Hammers a while back, and the fumes in the no wind, 100 degree weather (and with a slight hangover) just about had me puking all day long. The guy actually swapped it out for a 350 sbc a few months later just for that reason.
They are also not very responsive, and really lack the HP to quick spin the tires when needed.
But I would stil be curious as to how much a troquey little diesel like that would go for.

Re: Jeep 2.5L Turbo Diesel

From the looks of the eBay auction, it didn't sell. The reserve was never met.

Re: Jeep 2.5L Turbo Diesel

Jeff, I just ran across it this evening and I have no clue as to what it sold for. Sorry
I'm still running around in a stock Jeep. I think that little T/D would have enough to spin my measly 29" tires.
If I was running some of the big meats you guys are running I'd want the 5.9 Cummins T/D.

Re: Jeep 2.5L Turbo Diesel

I have a friend with a factory diesel in his XJ, and it's EXACTLY like H8 described. I hate wheeling anywhere near him because it stinks, and that's a loose term, it's really bad. I used to want a diesel as well, but am glad I wheel with him occasionally because it lets me know just how bad they suck. No power (even with the Klune-V), stinky, smokey, and noisy. What power he does have is too little - too late.

Here is a pic of the XJ.

Re: Jeep 2.5L Turbo Diesel

umm - you guys do realise that in europe, you can get jeeps with 2.5 TD's?the 2.5 TD liberty is reportedly the hotteest selling jeep model in most of europe right now. even in the USA, there were something like 2500 diesel Cherokee XJ's sold after the French army cancelled a contract. ( those were renault 2.5D's, and used the renault tranny.) I that was ~84 or so..anyone on here got one?

from a 1st person perspective, diesels are actually pretty good in mud - the HP numbers always seem low compared to gas engines, but with the low rpm powerbands, and LOTS of torque, they spin up the tires just fine. I mud bog in high range with my non-turbo diesel auto setup, and my biggest problem is making sure I dont over-rev 8^D ( MB autos are a bit different from N.american stuff that way) dont even get me started on water crossings - I've been half way up my windshield a few time using a snorkle, and have yet to see a gas engine that can do that repeatedly, or for extended durations!!

as for fumes..thats a N.American diesel thing. My Mercedes 240D powered rig doesnt puff at all in the summer, and only the slightest bit in the winter... and with my full length tail pipe, there's essentially no smell. bottom line is its all a matter of what you're used to I guess, 'cause emission controlled gas exhaust stinks after you've worked on diesels!!

$0.02
chris

PS: you REALLY wnat a diesel jeep? e-mail me - I've been waiting for a while for someone to ask me to fit a 300TD mercedes + auto into a CJ or YJ 8^D
