TJ - Problem when the speedo electric dieing??

My bosses girlfriend's TJ has that problem with the speedo electric shutting off. I know somebody had that problem a while ago. Wasn't it moisture behind the dash or something? What did you guys do to fix this. Hoepfully i can get a raise if I can cure his lady's jeep

Thanks

If the entire dash goes dead and the odometer display reads: NO BUSS .....then it's the "self docking" connector in the dash. Give it (the dash) a good rap with the heel of your hand and it'll come back. There is a service bulletin for this (I'm not sure if it's for that year).

My wife was all upset about it one day when we were out (I was a passenger as usual when we drive together locally) and it happened. I said some mumbo-jumbo and hit the thing and it all came back on .....and never did it again (over two years). This for some reason did not please her. Some how this was used to turn something else into being my fault.

Rather than rapping on it, you could try reaching up behind the dash and plugging the connector back in.

Is this a possible slick technique ? The two self docking connectors are nearer to the top of the instrument cluster. The only adjustment to them is to torque the instrument cluster fasteners to 20 in/lb. By the diagrams in the FSM it looks like you would have to be a contorsionist to get to them without pulling the instrument cluster.
