GM steering box???

Does anyone have a preference on what GM steering box is the one to have??? My scramblers box is leaking pretty bad and is developing alot of play so I figured its time for a GM box!!! Ive heard some people say to use one from a large GM passenger car and then I have heard to use one from a Camero!!! What do you guys think??

Re: GM steering box???

The difference between the boxes has to do with steering responsiveness, or how quickly it steers. Cameros have "Quick", steering for faster handling. Larger cars and trucks have "Slower" steering. I hope this makes sense.

Re: GM steering box???

I originally put in a steering box from an 80's something Camero into my 79 CJ7. I felt the ratio was too quick. It was actually scary. I exchanged it at the u-pull for a steering box from an 80's Olds. The Olds steering box has fast enough turning ratio for me. I had to use a three bolt because I couldn't find a four bolt. I have read that some GM vehicles do have four bolt from the factory. I had to do some fabricating to get the fourth bolt hole. Do a search and you should find a thread about using a GM steering box and how to modify it to four bolts. What worked for me might not work for you.
