Alright, I need some advice for a AMC 360 rebuild. This will be my first engine rebuild. Other than my chiltons manual, it will be trial and error. I'm planning on putting a edelbrock cam kit and manifold with a 600 CFM carb. Any thing I should look out for or suggestion that you can think of please let me know.. Thanks Pete
Your on the right track with the Edelbrock performer package, That combo make`s good power in a 360. Canis is right about the carb issue off-road. I found that the off-road needle and seat set from Edelbrock helped out that problem some-what, But the best thing is injection, Whether its TBI or MPI is personal preferrence. The oiling modification Canis referred to is also a good idea except it`s purpose isn`t to oil the rear portion of the cam, It`s to get extra oil to the rear,(#5) main bearing. If you were to look at a picture of the AMC oiling system, You would see that the #5 main is the last thing to be oiled, and under hard excelleration this area can be starved for oil. There is another oiling mod common to AMC motor`s that has to do with getting extra oil to the distributer and cam gear`s also. This mod is not needed if you pay careful attention to re-assembly of the cam timing gear. There`s a hole in the cam that corrospond`s to a small recess in the timing gear that sling`s oil to all the item`s under the timing cover. If you want the best AMC info possible, Go to www.ezboard.com . Click on forum find, Then go to the AMC forum. The people there are very friendly and helpful.
